NASHVILLE EARTH DAY FESTIVAL TO BE HELD APRIL 18

Free Event Offers Environmental Awareness Education, Youth Activities and Live Music

NASHVILLE – The Nashville community will celebrate the eighth annual Nashville Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Centennial Park. This year’s festival will help the community take another step toward Mayor Karl Dean’s goal of making Nashville the greenest city in the Southeast.

The 2009 festival is themed “Together – Growing a Greener Nashville” and will feature many exhibits and activities aimed at educating Middle Tennesseans about protecting our environment. More than 60 family-friendly booths, hosted by community groups, environmental organizations and government agencies, will offer fun and exciting hands-on activities for all ages.

“Our city has taken on many initiatives to become more environmentally friendly, and we are excited to present another event that can contribute to raising awareness,” said Laurel Creech, Nashville Earth Day Festival committee co-chair. “We are looking forward to a fun event that will inspire our community to shape Nashville into a greener and healthier place to live.”

The festival will include food from local vendors, an interactive children’s area and exhibits on clean air, sustainable building, energy, food, farming and more. There will also be a “ReCycle Your Cycle” station, where gently used bikes can be dropped off to be recycled and reused.

Live entertainment will start at 1 p.m. and continue throughout the day with performances by local artists Caitlin Rose, Jeremy Lister, AutoVaughn, and The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker. At 5:30 p.m., Grammy-nominated Susan Tedeschi will take the stage for the main performance of the evening.
